The beautiful planters on the station

Many years ago a group of Soroptimists started looking after the tubs on both platforms, taking over from the taxi drivers who used to do the job.  Now they tend the seven new planters sponsored and installed by the Friends. Under the leadership of retired florist and keen gardener, Jackie Graham, they maintain the quality of the soil with manure and regular watering.

Originally they planted small shrubs which form the “back bone” of the displays and each year augment with Spring and Summer bedding to add extra colour. In the growing season they can be seen regularly maintaining the planters. Passengers on the platforms often compliment their work. Next time you are waiting for a train why not take a look around at their handiwork.

The Leamington and Warwick Soroptimist Club was founded in June 1936 and celebrated its 80th birthday in the summer of 2016. It is part of a world-wide organisation of women whose aim is to help women achieve their full potential. At club level this translates itself into raising money for good causes, acting as a pressure group for women’s issues and doing service in the  community. Tending the planters on the station platforms is one such piece of service.
